Making Love by J.D. Isip

You know how many blind folk there are
            out there making love?
And they’re bumping against each other, groaning
cause their lost and pissed off
and they’re scared cause they have to make love
            and they don’t know how…
Making love with their eyes shut!
As if anything were ever made
That way—as if the blind were the best
at making anything, at making love—
                                                            they feel their way around
                                                            they sniff the air
                                                            they taste each other’s mouths
                                                            they’re making love…
Making love with their hands and their lips
trying to figure out where to start
And this is how the blind build: they pound
the nails into the wrong walls
Or miss the walls altogether!
and they mutilate themselves and cry
And lash out like circus freaks
            salivating, sweating and helpless, and
                                                            they feel their way around
                                                            they sniff the air
                                                            they taste each other’s skin
                                                            they’re making love…
You know how many blind folk there are
            out there making love?
And how we with eyes watch
in horror, in disgust, in envy
As they construct slanted and tortured
            monuments around us
And we’re bumping against each other, groaning
cause we’re lost and pissed off
And we’re scared cause we haven’t made love
            and don’t know how
                                                            they feel their way around
                                                            they sniff the air
                                                            they taste each other whole…
